Still Here. Always.

What happens when you die? Are promises broken? Do the bonds you create in this life truly break when one dies?

They don’t. Not in this life. Not in death. Not ever.

The dead do walk among us. Even if we do move on and heal, they still drop by from time to time. Checking up on us, proud of what we’ve done, who we are and want to be. They still laugh with us even if all we hear is the sound of our own laughter. They feel our remorse, our sadness, our grief and try to console us in the best way they can. Whatever their way is. They do try to talk us out of things, move events and people to help us cope, help us move on with our lives…be the best we can be. After all, our joy is their joy too.

Why do they still stay behind? They do because they want to. It’s not to say that they didn’t move on. They did…well some do. There IS a heaven somewhere.. and they’ve been there. There’s also heaven in the presence of those who you love. A happiness unequalled by anything on earth – your child’s giggle, your partner’s soft smile after a familiar tune, your mother talking endlessly about the embarrassing moments of your childhood…

That’s why they’re still here. We are their delight.

As my son said, “mama, if they can only see what we see.. they will notice that the dead is comforting them when they grieve. They’re still listening and laughing..they do everything except eat and touch us. It’s like they never left.”
